Nordström is board-certified in general
surgery and plastic surgery and is a professor of plastic and reconstructive
surgery. He graduated from the Medical Department of the University
of Helsinki in the 1970s and since 1976 has been operating in his
own surgical facilities, the Nordström Hospital for Plastic Surgery.
Professor Rolf E. A. Nordström has written and edited several
international textbooks and numerous chapters
in the field of plastic surgery and published hundreds
of articles in the international scientific journals.
Professor Nordström is often invited to
lecture and perform demonstration operations around the world. He
is an author of many groundbreaking inventions in the field of plastic
surgery. The most popular method of hair transplantation giving excellent
and natural looking results was developed by professor
Nordström in the late 1970s and published in 1981 in the American
journal "Aesthetic Plastic Surgery". This was the first time
the method of micrografts was described for baldness correction.
The most recent invention patented by Professor
Nordström is the Nordstrom Suture developed to enhance scalp
reductions and excisions of large scars, burns, and areas of skin
to be removed. Nordström was the first to introduce hair transplantation
in Scandinavia and the first in the Nordic countries to use tissue
expansion in conjunction with plastic and reconstructive operations.
Tissue expansion is used in, e.g., breast reconstruction after cancer
and in conjunction with many other plastic surgical procedures. Professor
Nordström has written and edited several textbooks on tissue
expansion.
Professor Nordström is an innovator in
his field and our hospital offers the most recent methods, state-of-the-art
techniques, and the highest standard of plastic surgery.
