- What Are the Risks?
Plastic
surgery is a wide field that includes reconstructive surgery,
or procedures done to repair birth defects and deformities caused
by accidents or disease, microsurgery, replantations, and aesthetic
(cosmetic) surgery. A patient considering aesthetic surgery
does not always realize the risks involved. Plastic surgery, like
all surgery, has risks. At our hospital the risk factors are taken
into consideration and eliminated. One common complication of aesthetic
surgery is infection. At the Nordström Hospital for Plastic

3) Often the outcome of aesthetic surgery is
not satisfactory due to the fact that not enough attention has been
paid to the preoperative planning. It is important to remember that
the patient often does not have enough knowledge about the possibilities
of aesthetic surgery. It is very important to see before and after pictures
of the patients who have undergone the same operation you are considering.
In case the operation result is not satisfactory, it is not always possible
to correct.

4) Sometimes aesthetic surgery aftercare
is not at the proper level. The postoperative care and monitoring
of the patients is extremely important. Professor Nordström
has been operating in his own surgical facility for almost 30 years
and he personally checks upon his patients. After the operation
the patient stays at our hospital followed by our nurses who are
specialized in aesthetic surgery aftercare. |
5) The aesthetic operations done in Finland are
covered by the patient protection law. This is a level of protection
